Road Warrior: Nine Races in Nine Nights for Taylor Ferns during Ohio Speedweek

The dream of every sprint car driver is to race every single night of the week. For Taylor Ferns, that dream becomes a reality over the next week and a half, as she is set to embark on the 2015 edition of Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket, which is slated for nine races in nine nights at eight tracks in the Buckeye State for the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) All Star Circuit of Champions.

The 33rd Annual Ohio Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket kicks off on Friday, June 19 at Attica Raceway Park. The nine-race mini-series then heads to the famed Eldora Speedway on Saturday, June 20, followed by stops at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Sunday, June 21, Wayne County Speedway on Monday, June 22, Sharon Speedway on Tuesday, June 23, Atomic Speedway on Wednesday, June 24, Fremont Speedway on Thursday, June 25 and Limaland Motorsports Park on Friday, June 26. Ohio Speedweek comes to a close on Saturday, June 27 at Fremont Speedway.

“I’m really looking forward to Ohio Speedweek,” said Ferns, who drives the Eco-Mend/Jimmy’s Towing Maxim. “I feel like I haven’t been in a car for a while, although it was only a couple weeks ago. Watching YouTube videos and GoPro videos help keep me mentally prepared.”

Ferns raced in three rounds of Ohio Speedweek last year, including at Atomic Speedway, where she qualified sixth-fastest of the stout 62-car field that was in attendance. She raced her way into the dash that night and finished 16th in the main event. Ferns also raced at Waynesfield Raceway Park and Limaland Motorsports Park last year during Ohio Speedway. Wayne County Speedway and Sharon Speedway will be venues she is visiting for the first time next week.

“I’m excited to head to some new tracks that I haven’t been to before,” she shared. “I hope to lose that black cloud we’ve had looming over our heads this season and to have strong runs and get back to what we know. This season has been all sorts of ups and downs, mainly downs, but I feel like that’s bound to be turned around.”

Ferns most recently competed on June 5 at Attica Raceway Park in Ohio and the following night she was in action at Fremont Speedway. Prior to that, she raced with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at Kokomo Speedway in Indiana on June 3, where her car sustained some damage after a heat race flip.

“The crew has been working so hard day in and day out and I’m determined to get them some strong finishes,” Ferns said. “I know, Speedweek of all weeks especially, that’s going to be tough to do, but I know what we’re capable of accomplishing and I’m going to do everything in my power to make that happen.”

Ferns has made 15 starts this season. She has raced with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions five times. She finished eighth in the season opener with the series in Florida back in February, and followed that up with a pair of 11th-place finishes. She also has raced with the World of Outlaws, Neal Tire MOWA Series, Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association and F.A.S.T. Series in Ohio, as she continues to run a “True Outlaw” schedule in 2015.
