TERRE HAUTE, IN (6-4-06) – by Bryan Autullo – The All Stars had a “long way to go and a short time to get there” as the song goes from the 1977 Smokey and the Bandit movie soundtrack, but everyone made it from Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA to Terre Haute, IN just in time for the co-sanctioned event with the world of Outlaws.

Paul May, who lives in Terre Haute, was most likely the last to arrive as they hit a coyote somewhere in Western PA, tearing a fuel line off the team transporter and putting them several hours behind schedule to make repairs.  They made it to the track on time, but the coyote wasn’t so lucky.

The All Stars, having raced in Central PA on Saturday night, made the 680 mile overnight trip back West to Indiana and fatigue was setting in by race time.  They still managed to take on the World of Outlaws on the semi-banked ½ mile and put on a great show for the fans despite not being able to do proper maintenance on their cars after the long journey between the two facilities left them with little time to work or sleep.

37 cars signed in for tonight’s event at the Action Track.  The Outlaws dominated the Top 10 spots with Joey Saldana taking the checkered flag ahead of Craig Dollansky who made a late race charge to the front.  On the initial start it was front row starter Dean Jacobs who took the lead on lap one, only to relinquish it to Saldana on lap two.  Jacobs is subbing for injured driver Terry McCarl in the #24 World of Outlaws ride.

After a caution for Jamie Martin on lap 2, the restart saw Saldana jump to the lead with Jacobs in tow.  Dollansky and Tattnell battled side by side for 4th as Chad Kemenah and Jac Haudenschild raced side by side behind them.

Once Saldana hit lapped traffic on lap 10, Jacobs got under him in turn 2 and lead down the backstretch, only to give up the lead once again on lap 11.  Saldana then cleared lapped traffic and began to pull away.

At the halfway point, Saldana lead over Jacobs, Danny Lasoski, and Dollansky as Tim Schaffer had moved up from his 23rd starting spot to 11th place.

On lap 21, Tattnell lost a motor, bringing out a red flag for oil on the track. The running order was Saldana, Jacobs, Lasoski, Dollansky, Kemenah, Haudenschild, Tyler Walker, Jason Solwold, Paul McMahan, and Chad Blonde rounding out the Top 10.

On the restart, Dollansky jumped to 3rd behind Saldana and Lasoski.  Jacobs fell to 4th and Schaffer was now up to 5th.  Kemenah was 6th and Donny Schatz had moved from 21st to 7th with just 4 laps to go.

On lap 27, Paul McMahan spun in front of the leaders on the front stretch with two flat tires on the right side of his car bringing out the final caution and setting up a 3 lap dash to the finish.

Dollansky got around Lasoski on the restart, but couldn’t catch Saldana who went on to win the event after 30 exciting laps of racing.

Heats were won by Schatz, Tattnell, Jacobs, and Swindell.

The Dash was won by Dean Jacobs.

The B-main was won by Jason Solwold.

The All Stars will be back in action with the World of Outlaws on June 14th at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI.  From there the series will follow the Outlaws to Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo, ND on June 16th and 17th.  For more information on the All Star Circuit of Champions, visit www.allstarsprint.com .  2006 All Star merchandise is now available online through the web site.
