Brock Mayes a 27 year old driver from Bucyrus, Ohio has packed his bags and will be in flight to Western Australia this weekend. Mayes has landed a ride with Kendrick Racing one of the highest profile Sprint Car racing teams in Australia. He has competed the last several years in the family owned J & F Construction, Kears Speed Shop, Kistler Engines, Oberlander’s Tree and Landscape, Carter Electric sponsored 11B with the All Stars Circuit of Champions, the NST and the World of Outlaws. He completed the 2006 season second in the championship points with the All Star Circuit of Champions. Relatively new to the Sprint Car scene , Mayes has been in a 410 sprinter since 2003. This will be a new experience and challenge racing in a different part of the world.
Kendrick Racing is owned by Geoff Kendrick an automotive engineer, high performance engine builder and other automotive related businesses. Kendrick, a racer himself says he once again has opted to import a driver for his high caliber team instead of using local talent. Kendrick states “the American drivers have a lot of talent and having them in the field is good for the local competition”. Kendrick states that the WA fans will get their first look at Mayes when he checks out his new ride for the season during a practice session at the Perth Motorplex next Wednesday night. He will be in the brand new #92 Eagle Chassis with Kendrick Power. Kendrick noted that he wants to try to win back to back AHG Sprint Car Series championships along with running in the World Series of Sprint cars in Eastern Australia. Dean Jacobs, a driver from Wooster, Ohio won that series championship for Kendrick in 2005/2006.
Jim and Debbie Mayes, parents and owners of Brock Motorsports stated that they are excited about this once in a lifetime opportunity for their son but will certainly miss not being able to watch him compete . His dad stated, “this is a long way from home and there is always some concern when one of your kids strikes out on a new adventure”. Jim said ,” I have personally spoken to Geoff Kendrick, a father of four himself , and Kendrick assured us that he would “take care of Brock like one of his own kids” which is always comforting to a parent.
Brock will be competing in the complete season in Australia and returning to the United States in late April. He will then be looking forward to racing once again with the multiple series that he raced with in 2006. |
