 KOKOMO, IN (9-24-06) – The All Star Circuit of Champions took on the World of Outlaws for the final time in 2006 at Kokomo Speedway. 47 winged 410 sprint cars signed in to do battle on the tight Central Indiana bullring. As the fog rolled in just before the A-main it looked like things might get a little hectic as you could not see the backstretch from the main grand stands. A fireworks display during the 4-wide salute made visibility even worse and a few extra parade laps were needed to clear the air.
When the green flag dropped it was mayhem on dirt as 24 cars flew around the fast ¼ mile where the track record was shattered several times earlier in the night. The 40 lap A-main went non-stop without a caution, making it a scoring nightmare trying to keep pace with the cars as they sliced and diced with traffic heavy all the way around the speedway.
In the end it was Craig Dollansky who dominated the race as he mastered that heavy traffic and kept his foot in it all the way around the speedway for the entire 40 laps. He was never challenged for the lead in the race that took just 8 ½ minutes to complete as he lapped all the way up to the 9th place car.
Terry McCarl made an effort to track down Dollansky but ran out of laps. Donny Schatz charged up through the field the same way he has done several times recently to come home third.
All Star veteran Dale Blaney had a good night and finished the event in fourth place. This was his 7th Top 10 finish against the Outlaw competition in 2006.
“We’re happy,” Blaney said. “We were pretty decent all night. We qualified ok. We ran our heat ok. We struggled a little bit in the dash, but had a good starting spot and that was key. A couple guys moved up pretty good. We just hung around out there. We lost a few spots at the beginning and then picked off a few. It worked out pretty well.”
The All Stars will complete their 2006 season this Saturday September 30th at Eldora Speedway. The final Top 10 in season points will be determined as Greg Wilson leads, followed by Brock Mayes, Chad Blonde, Danny Smith, Brandon Martin, and Barry Ruble.
Come out and support the All Stars and Eldora Speedway and close out the 2006 season with us. This last race of the year with the All Stars has traditionally had great car counts and this year should be no different with all of the other area speedways done for the season.
