ROSSBURG, OH (8-4-06) – The All Star Circuit of Champions took on the World of Outlaws once again at the high banks of Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH on Friday evening. The latest event in the showdown series between the two traveling groups saw Joey Saldana take the lead from Donny Schatz with just two laps to go to net Saldana his 2nd consecutive victory at Eldora.
"I never tried to run in the middle because usually when I do that, I lose my right rear tire," Saldana said. "The longer the race got, I knew he (Schatz) would get slower because he was not running against the fence in turns three and four. That's where I was gaining so much momentum on top. He was running so low going into (turn) three that it was scrubbing speed. I knew sooner or later I could get him. It was just getting to a lapped car and have him have to move his car. It happened with only a couple laps to go."
Saldana’s car owner Kasey Kahne was in attendance to see his driver win another race on the big half mile. "It feels really good," said Kahne. "When I come and watch him, he does an awesome job at this race track. I think Donny (Schatz) may have been a little better, but he got bound up in lap traffic and Joey took advantage of it. Joey did a great job and the guys did a great job giving him a good race car." "His wins pay a hell of a lot more than mine do," Saldana said jokingly of his car owner. "It is very cool to drive for him. He has definitely changed my racing career, so hopefully we can keep this up." All Stars Dale Blaney and Danny Smith had to make the A-main by way of transferring from the B-main, but managed to use their experience at Eldora to climb into the Top 15 by the end of the 30 lap affair. Blaney would come from the back to finish 8th and Smith would finish 11th. Brock Mayes and Brandon Martin also scored Top 15 finishes in 13th and 14th place respectively. The All Stars also held the 17th through 22nd spots in the A-main with All Star points leader Greg Wilson, Rob Chaney, Neil Shepherd, Chad Blonde, Butch Schroeder, and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. The All Stars will take a short break for the Knoxville Nationals and then be back in action on August 14th at Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, KS.
