Screven Motor Speedway Management Cancels Event Set For Nov. 2
Camargo, IL (10-24-11) By Brian Liskai – Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., has cancelled the Winter Freeze make-up event scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 2, that was scheduled to wrap up the season for the All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars.

The race was originally scheduled in February, and after heat races were completed, rains forced the cancellation of the feature, and it, along with a separate All Star sanctioned event were rescheduled to the Nov. 2 date.

“As promoter/owner, I would like to apologize for making a very bad re-scheduling decision on our inaugural Winter Freeze rain-out back in February,” said Screven Promoter/Owner James Redd Griffin in a press release. “Unfortunately, the Wednesday night, November 2 show will be cancelled due to many fans expressing that a Wednesday night will be impossible to support. November 2 is a work night and most of all a school night for the kids. Without that support, running this show would be a bad financial decision for the track.”

“I understand that this may upset many fans that were planning to come down to attend this show prior to the World Finals at Charlotte. At first, this seemed to be the best time to catch the 410 sprinters, that rarely make their way South. However, from the response that I have received through phone/emails and personal contact, most have said that it is too difficult to plan to attend a show on a week night,” continued Griffin.

Griffin said all of the rain-out tickets, including the Winter Freeze, will still be honored at the remaining 2011 events at Screven Motor Speedway. He said all rain-out tickets from the inaugural Winter Freeze will be honored for Screven’s second attempt at the Winter Freeze on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012 as the All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars will be at the track.

The Second Annual Winter Freeze will feature the All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars that will compete for a $5,000 to win event on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, and another $5,000 to win event on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.

The cancellation ends the 2011 season for the All Star Circuit of Champions and Tim Shaffer will be crowned the series champion for the third straight year. He also won the series’ Ohio and Great Plains region points and the $20,000 and $10,000 prizes respectively. Though he was injured and out for the remainder of the season, the cancellation also means Lance Dewease is the All Star’s Eastern Region champion, earning $20,000.

Blaney scores 84th career All Star win, takes advantage of Shaffer's misfortune

ROSSBURG, OH (10-1-2011) By Brian Liskai – It looked like Tim Shaffer was finally going to break his All Star Circuit of Champions drought at Eldora Speedway Saturday on University of Northwestern Ohio Night. But when Rob Chaney tumbled late in the race, Shaffer and Terry McCarl got together trying to avoid the crash and spun. This handed the lead to Blaney who had troubles of his own with a motor that just wouldn’t take off on restarts, but was good enough to take him to the victory, his 84th career All Star win.

"We kind of got lucky. Shaffer was probably going to win. When Chaney filliped Shaffer and McCarl got together and Shaffer spun. They put him on the tail for being involved in the crash…it was a judgment call," said Blaney beside his Ti22 Performance backed machine.

"My car didn't take off at all on the start until the gate by turn three. We have a mag problem or something. On that last restart I was just fortunate no one behind me could get around…the motor just wouldn’t take off,” added Blaney. “It feels good to get a win at Eldora again…it’s been a couple of years."

Shaffer would come back to finish seventh and claim the $20,000 prize for winning the All Star Circuit of Champion's Ohio Region points. Shaffer, who won the $10,000 Great Plaines Region points, also padded his National point lead.

"We came up on Chaney’s crash so quickly…and we both weren’t sure where he was going. You just have to make a decision on where to go and we both went low and I clipped the rear of his (McCarl) car and spun. It was just one of those deals. Dang I wanted to win an All Star race at Eldora…I’ve won three or four World of Outlaw races there, but I really wanted this one," said Shaffer beside his Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook owned machine.

"It’s great we won the All Star’s Ohio deal…it's a nice reward for the hard work my guys put into this team," continued Shaffer whose #83 carries Kistler Engines/Kistler Racing Products sponsorship.

Blaney and Randy Hannagan would lead the field to the green with Hannagan taking the lead. But third starting Shaffer and fourth starting Brad Sweet clearly had the cars to beat. Shaffer would grab the early lead with Sweet applying constant pressure to “The Steel City Outlaw.” But, Sweet’s challenge would end with about 10 laps to go when he retired with mechanical woes.

It looked like Shaffer would drive away with the win, but Chaney got upside down in turn 1 with seven laps to go, and as Terry McCarl tried to avoid Chaney, he and Shaffer got together with Shaffer spinning. That gave the lead to Blaney who cruised to the win over Hannagan, who also finished second in the NRA Sprint Invaders’ feature, Danny Smith (up from 12th),  David Gravel and Dustin Daggett.

Blaney's 84th career All Star win – his eighth of 2011 - moves him closer to all-time series win leader Kenny Jacobs who has 98.

For Hannagan, it was a great night at Tony Stewart’s Big E. He would also finish second in the NRA Sprint Invaders feature.

“I felt good at the start and that’s when I knew I was a sitting duck. Usually if you’re tight at the beginning of the race here, you’re pretty good at the end. I was good early and new I was going to be in trouble late. The car just got loose at the end. But, for having only run a handful of 410 shows this year, we’ve had pretty good results. Hopefully we can do a little more of that next year and get into victory lane,” said Hannagan beside his Central Valley Meat Company/Kenny’s Components/Gaerte Engines backed machine.

Sebetto edges Shaffer for thrilling $10,000 Fremont All Star win
FREMONT, OH (9-17-11) By Brian Liskai – The difference was .045 seconds. Fremont, Ohio’s Bryan Sebetto edged two-time and defending All Star Circuit of Champions titlist Tim Shaffer for the biggest win of his career Saturday at Fremont Speedway.

Sebetto, who has now won over $25,000 in the past two weeks, banged wheels with Shaffer as they came down the front stretch to the checkered and was able to win the Jim Ford Classic and its $10,000 prize. It was Sebetto’s fourth win of the year at “The Track That Action Built” and came after a second place finish the previous night to Shaffer.

“Was that exciting?” yelled Sebetto over the roar of the hometown crowd after he climbed down from scaling the front stretch fence.

“I didn’t know whether to just follow the lapped car through three and four and keep my line or push the issue and pull off the line. I could hear someone back there…I knew he (Shaffer) was coming. We banged wheels…I hope he’s not mad because that was for $10,000. We’re buddies but this is for the win,” continued Sebetto in the Engine Pro Victory Lane beside his Burmeister Racing/JLH Contractors/Stephen Mapus Tools/Schiets Motorsports/Wendy’s Restaurant/R&R Auto Wrecking/Big D’s Pizza backed machine.

“This is amazing. This team deserves this more than any team in the pits. They work so hard on this thing…they put their heart and soles and life savings into this to keep it on the race track. There’s just so many people that have made this possible…my racing career from the time I was a kid,” added Sebetto of his 17th career win at Fremont, which moves him into a tie for 30th on the all-time win list with Jack Hewitt and Jim Ward.

Two weeks ago, Sebetto crashed his mount at Attica Raceway Park. The car was taken to local legend Mark Keegan who had to weld and fix the frame. And it was good enough to give Sebetto the biggest win of his young career – his second All Star victory in as many years.

“I’m ready for the World of Outlaw race (on Oct. 15)…bring them on,” said Sebetto. “There’s no better chassis than a Maxim in my opinion…no matter what we do to it it’s fast. Mikey Summer works his butt off and he deserves every bit of thanks he gets. And Mango and Jay and Rollie and Tommie and the whole crew…they do so much.”

Shaffer was just as excited as Sebetto with the outcome.

“I was inching up on him little by little and if I had a chance I knew it would be in one and two and I hit it right…boy I nailed it that time and got a run on him down the back straight away. And then it got kind of funneled down and got tight and I was like ‘man I got underneath him but I pushed up the track. It was just a great race and a lot of fun. Bryan and his guys did a great job…hats off to them,” said Shaffer beside his Kistler Engines/Kistler Racing Products backed #83. “If anyone had to beat me I’m glad it was him…he’s a good friend. We gave him a shot at it. These guys have been doing a great job here all year.”

But looking at the bigger picture, the weekend gives Shaffer a big advantage in the chase for his third consecutive All Star national title and the $20,000 Ohio Region championship.

And while the crowd was abuzz about the tremendous battle for the win, they were also treated to another back to front charge as Greg Wilson sliced his way from dead last – 24th – to a third place finish.

“I knew if we could just get in the race – we haven’t been timing worth a darn and we hurt our real good engine last night. I have to thank Paul Kistler for helping us out with this engine. It isn’t the stoutest thing but the damn thing just keeps on trucking. Daniel Smith had this car awesome. I have to thank the good Lord above for looking out for us. We’ve had a couple of rough weeks here. But my wife and my dad and everyone that’s been helping…they’ve stuck by me,” said Wilson beside his All Star Plumbing and Heating/DNC Hydraulics/Ohio Logistics backed machine.

In the 50-lap All Star feature, Sebetto and Todd Heller would lead the field to the green. Sebetto would bolt into the lead while Jac Haudenschild would steal second with Heller, Cole Duncan, Shaffer and Brad Haudenschild in tow. Shaffer would drive the bottom groove into third on lap four as Sebetto pulled away.

The caution would fly for a Cap Henry spin on lap 8 with the running order Sebetto, Haudenschild, Shaffer and Duncan. Sebetto was just ready to hit lapped traffic when the caution came out and Haudenschild had been closing. With a clear track, Sebetto again pulled away, as he set a blistering pace, encountering lapped traffic by the 15th circuit.

As the leaders raced through traffic, Shaffer quickly closed on Haudenschild, taking the runner-up spot on lap 20. Shaffer immediately starting reeling in Sebetto as they ran nose to tail until the caution flew on lap 26 for a Dale Blaney spin. Sebetto again had a clear track with a lapped car separating him and Shaffer while four lapped cars back it was Haudenschild in third, followed by Holtgraver, David Gravel and last place starter Greg Wilson.

Sebetto would pull away again from Shaffer slightly as Haudenschild now had his hands full with Gravel and Wilson. Shaffer began slowly inching closer to Sebetto, and when they raced back into lapped traffic with 15 circuits to go, the pair again ran nose to tail. The final caution would fly on lap 41, again handing Sebetto with a clear track, which he used on the ensuing restart to pull away slightly. Meanwhile Wilson had moved into third.

However, with two laps to go, Shaffer had quickly closed the game and raced to Sebetto’s inside. As they took the white flag, they raced into turns one and two with Sebetto up top and Shaffer on the bottom. The pair raced side by side into turn three with a lapped car right in front of Sebetto. Shaffer pounced, driving to the inside as Sebetto diamonded off the corner and charged at Shaffer. The pair banged wheels down the front stretch with Sebetto winning by a bumper.

Shaffer scores 10th All Star win to open Ford Classic at Fremont
ImageFREMONT, OH (9-16-11) By Brian Liskai– Tim Shaffer shot around Rob Chaney in lapped traffic on lap 14 and then benefitted from a caution to give him a clear track as he went on to score the All Star Circuit of Champions win to open the Jim Ford Classic at Fremont Speedway on Friday night. It marked the 98th appearance of the All Stars at Fremont Speedway.

The win on All Pro Cylinder Heads Night was the 10th series win of the year for the two-time All Star champion and the 11th career win at Fremont. He will seek to sweep the weekend on Saturday in the $10,000-to-win, 50-lap finale on Ludwig Propane Night. It was also Shaffer’s 45th career All Star win to move him into sixth on the series’ all-time win list, just eight behind Frankie Kerr.

“Things really got interesting there for awhile…it was a great race. I didn’t think we were going to get there. But Brian (Kemenah, crew chief) and guys did such a great job on the car…it came on late. That caution helped a bunch…it seemed like everything kind of fell our way tonight,” said Shaffer in the Engine Pro Victory Lane beside his Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook Motorsports entry.

“You have to take it when it happens like this because a lot of nights it don’t. That’s dirt track racing…it changes all night and my guys changed the car and hit it right on the money,” added Shaffer of his Kistler Engines/Kistler Racing Products/VRP Shocks #83. “Tomorrow’s a whole new night and things can change. You have to start with a good qualifying effort and get through your heat and go from there. It will be a longer race which I seem to like…I just hope we can be up here tomorrow.”

While Shaffer had to be considered the odds on favorite to win – he’s won the $10,000 Ohio Sprint Speed Week Finale at “The Track That Action Built in June – many of the fans were hoping local driver Bryan Sebetto could provide an upset. The 2011 Kistler Racing Products FAST champion has won three times at Fremont this season, including the previous week.

Sebetto. the track’s current point leader, would charge from 10th to finish second.

“You can’t give Tim Shaffer a clear track…he’s the best in the business…the only shot I had was lapped traffic. He’s way better in traffic than I am…it would have taken him getting hung up in the right spot and giving me an opening. Congrats to Tim and the whole crew…they did a great job. You know they are the car to beat every time you pull into the pits for an All Star race..any race for that matter,” said Sebetto beside his Burmeister Racing/Steven Mapus Tools/JLH General Contractors backed #16.

"Once started to get the wing back a little bit I could move around…I was really good on the bottom in one and two but it was hard to hit the spot without sliding up into the slick,” added Sebetto.

For Rob Chaney who led the first 13 laps, a solid third place run was just was the Bryan Grove team needed.

“I’m not disappointed at all. We’ve really struggled…we’ve been fast since speedweek and our results don’t show it. We got a top three finish and hopefully we can finish the year out with some good finishes without any problems,” said Chaney beside his Canton Erectors/Tim Hawkins Logging backed #45.

In the 30-lap All Star feature, Dale Blaney and Rob Chaney would lead the field to the green, with Chaney getting the advantage while Jac Haudenschild and Shaffer would give chase. Shaffer would take third on lap four, but Haudenschild would fight back to regain the position on the next lap.

As Chaney hit lapped traffic on the ninth circuit, Blaney would close while Haudenschild and Shaffer continued to run side-by-side for third. Meanwhile Byron Reed, Brandon Martin, Sebetto and 13th starter Dean Jacobs would race heard for fifth. Shaffer would grab third on the 11th lap and drove around Blaney into second a lap later, with Haudenschild taking third on lap 13. Just as the half-way point was completed, the caution would fly when David Gravel lost a right front wheel. The running order was Shaffer, a lapped car, Chaney, Sebetto, Haudenschild, Blaney and Jacobs.

With a clear track, Shaffer would pull away slightly while Chaney was locked in a torrid battle for second with Sebetto. With four laps to go, Sebetto was able to drive under Chaney for second with Haudenschild and Jacobs rounding out the top five. But, Sebetto ran out of time as Shaffer took the checkered. Chaney, Jacobs and Haudenschild would round out the top five.

Blaney notches 83rd All Star win with victory at Butler

QUINCY, Mich. (Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011) - Dale Blaney struggled over the weekend with engine woes, but his George Fisher led team were able to correct the problem just in time Sunday for "The Low Rider" to pick up his 83rd career All Star Circuit of C

hampions victory at Butler Motor Speedway.

The win was Blaney's 7th of the season with the All Stars and keeps him within striking distance of current series national and Ohio region point leader Tim Shaffer.

Blaney had to hold off a late race challenge by hometown favorite Chad Blonde to score the victory.

"At Attica the motor just wouldn't take off so I dropped to the back and about the second caution it was better but still not right. So, we changed the motor for Butler, but it just wouldn't run. George worked his tail off and got it better by the dash and we were able to start up front," said Blaney beside his Ti22 Performance backed machine.

"Chad showed me his nose once and I just picked up my pace. I felt if I had to I could pass cars but luckily we started up front and the motor ran better," added Blaney.

For Blonde, who has four wins at Butler in 2011, a second place run has him excited about his Shawn Ro binson led team.

"We destroyed a car at Eldora and this is a new car and we're just now getting it figured out. I got to Dale in traffic and he just got up on the wheel and moved some guys. I'm not completely on my game like I was when I used to travel and race with these guys...but I'll get there," said Blonde beside his Pennington Gas sponsored #1.

Randy Hannagan joined Blaney on the front row for the 30-lap feature. The first attempt to start saw multiple cars make contact in the middle of the pack and by the time the caution flag appeared Dustin Daggett, Jody Keegan, Doug Zimmerman, and Kyle Sauder were stopped on the back stretch.  Phil Gressman also went pit side during the caution when his car was unable to fire after the caution. Sauder also retired to the pit area.

Hannagan led the field during the second attempt to start the feature when Kevin Atkins spun in turn two.  The third attempt was successful with Blaney taking the lead over Hannagan. Blonde thrilled his home track crowd moving up from eighth starting spot into third by the fourth lap.  Blaney, Hannagan, and Blonde pulled away from the rest of the field as they approached lapped traffic on lap five with Tim Shaffer and Danny Holtgraver keeping the lead trio within sight.

While in traffic the leaders had a close call when Pete Miller spun in turn four to bring out the caution.

Blaney, Hannagan, and Blonde pulled away from the field after the restart.  Blonde got a run under Hannagan down the backstretch on lap 13 and moved into second. Blonde immediately put pressure on Blaney for the lead.  On lap 18 Blaney left the door open for Blonde to try a slide job coming off turn four as they raced side-by-side.

After that attempt Blaney was able to get through lapped traffic quicker than Blonde and opened up more distance than Blonde could make up before the finish.   Hannagan, Tim Shaffer, and Danny Holtgraver rounded out the top five.

Shaffer earns 3rd straight All Star event to close Attica season
ATTICA, OH (9-3-11) By Brian Liskai – Tim Shaffer dominated the 40-lap feature Saturday at Attica Raceway Park, leading all 40 laps to claim his third straight All Star Circuit of Champions victory to increase his lead in the series’ national and Ohio Region points standing.

Shaffer has now won nine All Star events in 2011. His victory in the Baumann Auto Group Attica Ambush brings his career total to 44 with the All Stars and moves him into a tie for sixth on the all-time win list with former champion Kevin Huntley and Dave Blaney. The Steel City Outlaw needs 9 more All Star feature wins to catch four-time series champion Frankie Kerr for fifth.

The cautions flew perfect for Shaffer throughout the 40-lap affair…just as he was getting into heavy lapped traffic. Shaffer would use the clear track and clean air to pull away each time.

“It’s amazing…it really is. It’s a lot of fun. When you have a great team and great people behind you…Paul Kistler with the engines and J&J Chassis…every body,” said Shaffer in the Engine Pro Victory Lane beside his Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook owned machine.

“It all goes back to a great team from the owners to the people working on it…just everything,” added Shaffer of his Kistler Racing Products/Kistler Engines backed #83.

Shaffer and Phil Gressman would lead the field to the green with Shaffer grabbing the lead while fast qualifier Danny Holtgraver and Cole Duncan would get around Gressman with Todd Kane and David Gravel giving chase. The first caution would fly on the third circuit for a Greg Wilson spin.

Following two more green flag laps the caution would fly for Cap Henry who suffered a broken wheel. On the restart Shaffer would pull away from the great battle for second between Holtgraver, Duncan and Gressman while sixth starter Gravel would vault into fifth. The car on the move was Bryan Sebetto, who had won the last two features at Attica, as he blasted from his 15th starting spot to eighth by the eighth lap.

Shaffer would catch the rear of the field by the 12th lap, but Holtgraver and Duncan could not close. The caution would fly for Wilson again on lap 13, giving Shaffer a clear track. The running order was Shaffer, Holtgraver, Duncan, Gressman, Gravel, Kane, Byron Reed and Sebetto. On the restart Sebetto would drive into sixth and was pressuring Gravel for fifth. Disaster would strike on lap 19 when fourth running Gressman appeared to have something break on his machine, sending him upside down in turn three and Sebetto made heavy contact with the crashing car, ending his night.

The red came just as Shaffer was getting into lapped traffic once again. With a clear track, Shaffer would pull away on the restart while Holtgraver, Duncan, Gravel and 13th place starter Dean Jacobs waged a great battle. Holtgraver would slip over the cushion exiting turn two on lap 25, following to fifth as Duncan, Gravel and Jacobs got by.

Shaffer would hit lapped traffic on lap 27, but Duncan and Gravel could not close. With eight laps to go, Shaffer was in heavy traffic with Gravel taking second from Duncan as Jacobs and Reed closed. Jacobs would slide off turns three and four on lap 33, doing a 360 spin to bring out the caution. Shaffer now had two lapped machines between himself and Gravel.

Shaffer would pull away on the restart while Gravel worked his way around the lapped machines. Meanwhile Holtgraver had rallied to take third on lap 34 with Reed moving into fifth.

Shaffer would take the checkered by two car lengths over Gravel, Holtgraver, Reed and 16th place starter Randy Hannagan.

For Gravel, who has been staying at Shaffer’s crew chief Brian Kemenah’s home, it was his third straight runner-up finish to Shaffer.

"He’s freaking killing me…I gave him one last night (at Lernerville). I wish this was 50 laps…usually I get tired in 40 lap races but we were coming at the end. It’s crazy, we finish one, two every night and we sleep in the same house," said Gravel beside his P&M Transportation/JRC Transportation/DDR Motorsports #89.

Holtgraver was excited about his third place showing.

“We ran second the whole race. That cushion is mean…it bit me. But we were able to battle back and we’re standing here on the front stretch so I’m pretty happy,” said Holtgraver beside his Buckeye Steering Products/Spinnwebbers Auto Sales backed machine. “You never quit…no matter what happens never give up…just keep digging and digging.”

Shaffer takes All Star's Ohio Region points lead with Lernerville victory
SARVER, PA. - (9-4-2011) - There are certain tracks and dates that sprint car drivers circle on their calendar and Lernerville Speedway is one two-time All Star Circuit of Champions titlist Tim Shaffer highlights every year. The "Steel City Outlaw" is nearly unstoppable at "The Action Track," and Friday he proved that, taking the lead from David Gravel on a late-race restart and going on to his second straight series' victory.

Shaffer, a former Lernerville track champion, earned his eighth All Star win of 2011 and took the lead in the $20,000-to-win Ohio region point standings after already claiming the $10,000 Great Plains Region title. Shaffer, who also leads the All Stars' National Points, now has 43 career All Star wins, to put him into a tie for eighth on the series' all-time victory list with Bobby Allen. Another All Star win and Shaffer would be tied with former All Star champion Kevin Huntley and Dave Blaney for sixth.

Despite a bevy of wild crashes in both the B-main and A-main - including former Lernerville and three time All Star champion Dale Blaney while running third late in the feature - Shaffer put on a show for the hometown crowd. Shaffer would earn his third major Lernerville win in the last four attempts in the last calendar year. He won this same event last September, then scored his second career Silver Cup victory against the World of Outlaws this summer. His only miss in the past year at his home track was last year's Commonwealth Clash where he finished third.

It looked like All Star regular David Gravel would get his second career series' win as he led from the drop of the green. But, when Blaney went sailing off the apex of turns three and four and landed in the catch fence between the track and the pit grandstands, Shaffer knew he had a shot. On the ensuing restart Shaffer threw his Aaron Call-Janet Holbrook Motorsports #83 low and hard in turns one and two, stealing the lead away from Gravel. Once at the point, Shaffer is nearly unstoppable and he quickly checked out for his second straight win at this event at the Action Track.

Gravel would hold on for second ahead of two-time All Star champion Greg Wilson, Danny Smith, Lernerville regular Rod George, defending Lernerville champion Danny Holtgraver (who recovered from an early spin), Brian Ellenberger, previous week Lernerville winner Andy McKisson (after starting 22nd), Ed Lynch Jr. and Rob Chaney.

"To tie Bobby Allen in wins is really cool. He was one of my heroes when I first started racing," said Shaffer beside his Kistler Racing Products/Kistler Engines/VRP Shocks backed machine. "David was faster than us...I don't think I had anything for him. But, anything can and usually does happen in dirt track racing...that's what makes it so exciting. When we had that restart I figured that was the only opportunity I was going to get and I threw it in there and it stuck. Brian (Kemenah, crew chief) and the guys once again gave me a perfect car to drive. We have the best TEAM in sprint car racing."

For Gravel, who keeps his race team at Kemenah's shop in Fremont, Ohio, another second place run has him excited about the rest of the season.

"I left the door open on that restart with four laps to go. Tim finally got a good restart - I had him on all the others, but on that last one I went high and he dove under me and slid me. But, since Tyler (Swank, crew chief) and I hooked up after Knoxville, we've been really fast. I'm excited about the rest of the year," said Gravel beside his JRC Transportation/DDR Motorsports #89G.

Wilson's third place run was a shot in the arm for the Benton Ridge, Ohio driver.

The opening lap of the A-main was marred by a spectacular crash involving Cole Duncan and Eric Williams. Williams' car landed on Duncan's, and though unharmed, Duncan was trapped in his car for several minutes under the upside down car of Williams. Carl Bowser, Jessica Zemken and Ellenberger were also involved and/or stopped on the track near the scene with Bower and Ellenberger able to return to action. Then mid-race, Lynch spun due to a flat left rear tire, collecting 2010 All Star Rookie of the Year Cap henry who flipped trying to avoid him.

The carnage actually began in the B-main when Dan Shetler and Scott Priester touched tires, sending Priester down towards the back pit entranced where he hit a tree. A few laps later, Lindsay Enscoe made heavy contact with the front wall, sending her upside down.

All drivers walked away unharmed.

All Star Circuit of Champions will have busy Labor Day weekend
ImageCAMARGO, IL (8-29-11) By Brian Liskai – The points battles have been exciting all season for the All Star Circuit of Champions and the outcome from a busy Labor Day weekend could have a big impact on who is crowned the series’ National and Ohio region champion.

Two time and defending All Star champion Tim Shaffer is coming off his 7th series’ victory – winning Aug. 27 at Mercer Raceway Park – to extend his lead in the national standings over three time All Star champion Dale Blaney. However, Blaney, who also has scored seven series’ wins in 2011 and sits second on the all-time win list with 83 career victories, leads the $20,000-to-win Ohio Region points. However, Shaffer, who won the series’ Great Plains Region recently, is right behind, looking to pounce as the All Stars compete in three events over the holiday weekend. Shaffer has 42 career All Star victories and sits tied for 9th on the all-time win list with Kelly Kinser.

The All Stars will take on the tough Western Pennsylvania competitors Friday, Sept. 2 at Lernerville Speedway. On Saturday, the All Stars will help Attica Raceway Park close out its 2011 season with the traditional Baumann Auto Group Attica Ambush. Then it’s off to Butler Speedway in Quincy, Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 4, for a make-up event that was originally scheduled for Aug. 20 but was postponed due to rain.

Shaffer, a former Lernerville track champion, took the Second Annual Duel in the Dirt at the speedway last season. It was his 17th overall feature win of the year in 2010 and his 12th All Star win. As it has been most of this season, Blaney was second while milti-time Lernerville champion Ed Lynch Jr. came home third.

Besides Shaffer and Blaney, David Gravel continues to show he has what it takes to claim an All Star championship. He sits third in the National and Ohio region point standings. Throw in defending Lernerville champion Danny Holtgraver, who sits fourth in the All Stars’ Ohio Region points, and 2011 Lernerville champion Carl Bower and track regulars Rod George, Brandon Matus, Brian Ellenberger, Kevin Schaeffer, Brent Matus, Brian Steinman and Andy McKisson  - who won a feature Aug. 26 – and it has the recipe for a “barn-burner.”

On Saturday at Attica Raceway Park, the All Stars will battle another group of tough weekly competitors. Bryan Sebetto is coming off back-to-back wins while six-time track champion Byron Reed, 2011 track champion Dean Jacobs, two-time feature winner Brandon Martin, and early season winner Danny Smith will be tough. Through in possible competitors like Sam Hafertepe Jr. and Phil Gressman who each scored a win at Attica.

The All Stars have visited Attica twice in 2011 with Blaney and Shaffer each scoring victories.

Also, the Baumann Auto Group will present their Baumann Bonus Bucks at Attica, with some lucky fan taking home $500.

It’s off to the only All Star event in the State of Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 4.

Former All Star rookie of the year Chad Blonde has four victories at Butler in 2011. Other winners include Ryan Ruhl, Ken Mackey.
