26th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek Preview

CAMARGO, IL (5-21-08) by Bryan Autullo – All Star PR Director

The 26th Annual UNOH Ohio Sprint Speedweek is just around the corner and the All Stars are geared up to make it exciting once again. Always a week to look forward to every summer, this year proves to be no different as a $10,000 point fund is in place to be distributed at the end of the week to some of the most talented sprint car drivers in the country. In addition, the Ohio Speedweek promoters have once again offered a $50,000 bonus to any driver who can win 4 of the 7 scheduled events. Dale Blaney came close to capturing the bonus money in 2007, coming up just short on the final night. Will there be a $50,000 winner in 2008?

Drivers are required to pre-register to be eligible for the Speedweek point fund and the bonus money. The forms are available on the All Star web site and the Ohio Speedweek web site. In addition to the possible bonus money being paid, there is over $197,000 up for grabs in scheduled purse money alone. Ohio Sprint Speedweek is one of the richest weeks of racing in the United States and has attracted many of the top names of the sport from across the country and as far away as Australia year after year, making it a must see event for any sprint car fan. A total of 93 drivers competed in Ohio Speedweek events in 2007 with Shane Stewart taking home the Ohio Speedweek Championship title.

The week kicks off (unofficially) at Waynesfield Motor Sports Park on Saturday June 21st. Waynesfield hosted a Speedweek event in 2007 which turned out to be one of the more entertaining nights of the week. This preliminary event does not pay points toward the Speedweek point fund, but is a good warm-up for the following 7 straight nights of racing through Ohio.

The first official Speedweek points event is on Sunday June 22nd at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio. Then on Monday June 23rd it's on to Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio. From there the series moves to Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, Ohio on Tuesday June 24th. On Wednesday June 25th the series heads to Skyline Speedway in Stewart, Ohio. Then it's back to familiar Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio on June 26th and then on to Limaland Motorsports Park on Friday June 27th in Lima, Ohio. All of these events pay $5000 to win leading up to Saturday's $10,000 to win Speedweek finale which will be held on June 28th at the monster ½ mile Eldora Speedway.
