Wilson Returns To Contend For Third Championship
CAMARGO, IL (3-16-08) by Robert Cortum - O'Reilly All Star Public Relations

ImageGreg Wilson has been turning heads for a number of years behind the wheel of a sprint car. In 2007 he wasn’t just turning heads, he was causing fans to chew on their fingernails as he and Danny Smith dueled all season long to the second closest season points finish in history with the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions. A mere two points separated Wilson and Smith at the final checkered flag, second only to the historical 1993 Season when Frankie Kerr and Kevin Huntley were crowned co-champions in which they both accumulated 4755 points.

Wilson, who has recently returned from a stint in the "Land Down Under" for the second time in his career, will once again be a threat to win another championship in 2008. After looking at where the team can make improvements from the previous season, the driver of Verl Warnimont’s potent #w20 machine has a positive outlook on the season.

“Having Verl by my side all season long last year was huge. He kept pushing me and this team whenever we got down,” Wilson states. “I owe a lot to Verl for his friendship and help in my racing career.”

The 2007 season was up and down for the team. They started out strong at the beginning of the season and then Wilson felt as if they slid back a bit. But the season finished out just as strong and consistent as it began for the team, pushing them to a back-to-back championship. “It was a long schedule for me last season, but we have a lot to look forward to from those efforts,” Wilson added. “We won a second championship and I was able to go over to Australia and I ended up qualifying for the World Challenge at Knoxville in August.”

The team will be utilizing some of the best in equipment for 2008. They will pack a combination of Maxim chassis and Kister and Hampshire Engines. Other support for the team will include assistance from Banshee Graphics, Speedway Motors, Hoosier Racing Tire, Simpson, Weld Racing, Vortex Wings, Afco Shocks, and Butlerbuilt Motorsports Equipment.

The 2008 season will be a busy one for Wilson and Warnimont. The team will focus their efforts on the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions, but have also penciled in several more events to stretch their schedule to almost 100 dates.

Wilson noted, “We are definatly going for another championship. There are a few other races we plan to get to race, some of those may be with the Midwest All Star Series depending on our schedule and traveling situation.”

About the competition level in 2008, Wilson commented, “This season is going to be another tough one. We have guys like Lance Dewease, Brock Mayes, Dale Blaney, Paul McMahan, and Randy Hannagan to run against every time out this year. Great competition, that is what championship racing is all about.”

Sponsors on the Verl Warnimont owned/Greg Wilson throttled #w20 for 2008 include All Star Plumbing and Heating, Don Spider Excavating, Miller Rigging, Mack and Bob’s Service Garage, and Clouse Construction.
