QUINCY, Mich. (Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011) - Dale Blaney struggled over the weekend with engine woes, but his George Fisher led team were able to correct the problem just in time Sunday for "The Low Rider" to pick up his 83rd career All Star Circuit of C hampions victory at Butler Motor Speedway.
The win was Blaney's 7th of the season with the All Stars and keeps him within striking distance of current series national and Ohio region point leader Tim Shaffer.
Blaney had to hold off a late race challenge by hometown favorite Chad Blonde to score the victory.
"At Attica the motor just wouldn't take off so I dropped to the back and about the second caution it was better but still not right. So, we changed the motor for Butler, but it just wouldn't run. George worked his tail off and got it better by the dash and we were able to start up front," said Blaney beside his Ti22 Performance backed machine.
"Chad showed me his nose once and I just picked up my pace. I felt if I had to I could pass cars but luckily we started up front and the motor ran better," added Blaney.
For Blonde, who has four wins at Butler in 2011, a second place run has him excited about his Shawn Ro binson led team.
"We destroyed a car at Eldora and this is a new car and we're just now getting it figured out. I got to Dale in traffic and he just got up on the wheel and moved some guys. I'm not completely on my game like I was when I used to travel and race with these guys...but I'll get there," said Blonde beside his Pennington Gas sponsored #1.
Randy Hannagan joined Blaney on the front row for the 30-lap feature. The first attempt to start saw multiple cars make contact in the middle of the pack and by the time the caution flag appeared Dustin Daggett, Jody Keegan, Doug Zimmerman, and Kyle Sauder were stopped on the back stretch. Phil Gressman also went pit side during the caution when his car was unable to fire after the caution. Sauder also retired to the pit area. Hannagan led the field during the second attempt to start the feature when Kevin Atkins spun in turn two. The third attempt was successful with Blaney taking the lead over Hannagan. Blonde thrilled his home track crowd moving up from eighth starting spot into third by the fourth lap. Blaney, Hannagan, and Blonde pulled away from the rest of the field as they approached lapped traffic on lap five with Tim Shaffer and Danny Holtgraver keeping the lead trio within sight. While in traffic the leaders had a close call when Pete Miller spun in turn four to bring out the caution. Blaney, Hannagan, and Blonde pulled away from the field after the restart. Blonde got a run under Hannagan down the backstretch on lap 13 and moved into second. Blonde immediately put pressure on Blaney for the lead. On lap 18 Blaney left the door open for Blonde to try a slide job coming off turn four as they raced side-by-side.
After that attempt Blaney was able to get through lapped traffic quicker than Blonde and opened up more distance than Blonde could make up before the finish. Hannagan, Tim Shaffer, and Danny Holtgraver rounded out the top five. Chad Blonde by pulling awlast ten laps for the victory.
