Camargo, IL (5-4-09) by Kelly Brown - Public Relations Director – In racing the number 500 has a lot of significance whether it is 500 miles at Indy or Daytona, but it is not every day that a driver gets to celebrate 500 career feature wins. Fred Rahmer did just that tonight in O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions competition, as the driver simply known as “Fast Freddie” took the win for the PA Posse.
Rahmer’s night began with pole sitter Brian Leppo by his side. On the drop of the Green Flag Leppo jumped out into the early lead and would set the pace for the first 13 laps of the event. Rahmer would fall in line with three time All Star Champion Dale Blaney following in the fray. Doug Esh, who started fourth picked up the third position by Lap 3 and slid past Rahmer on Lap 6. The event’s only Yellow Flag was unfurled for Mark Smith’s racing machine, which came to a stop against the inside guardrail in Turn 2 on the 6th orbit of the oval. This was bad news for Esh as the lap did not count and when the field was reverted back to the prior lap it sent him back to third in Rahmer’s tire tracks. When the field took the Green Flag, Rahmer blocked a charge by Esh and set his sights on the lead. Rahmer stalked Leppo in the bottom groove, until Lap 14. At that point Leppo’s car was clearly tight on the bottom and Rahmer was able to get around him in the second turn. Rahmer did not drive away from the pack through once in the lead. He had to deal with lapped traffic and in the final laps he fought off advances by Leppo, Esh, and Alan Krimes, but Rahmer had number 500 in his grasps and did not let it go. At the finish line it would be Rahmer with Leppo, Esh, Krimes and Blaney rounding out the top-five. This was not only Rahmer’s 500th win, but it was also his 164th win at Lincoln Speedway. Rahmer took home $5,000 for the victory. The timing of this win was quite timely for the legendary PA Posse member, as he will be inducted into the Sprint Car Hall of Fame in less than a month. The O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions will be back in action next weekend as the pilots of the series have a triple-header in PA, starting at Williams Grove on Friday before moving to Port Royal for a two night event. Winner’s Quote: Fred Rahmer–”"It's nice to win my 500th win on an All Star show. I've got a lot of respect for those guys. Dale Blaney, Greg Wilson, Danny Smith and the whole group of other guys are real good and it's nice to win against them. I feel very fortunate. The real race was when they put me back in front of Doug on that caution. They came over the radio and said I was ahead of him the lap before. I kept waiting for Brian to move up but that's what happens when you start on the pole. He led all those laps on the bottom so I just kept working him and working him until we finally got by. The track was really good tonight and you could move around and race. It made for good entertainment and I appreciate everyone spending their money to come watch us race." | Kistler Engines Qualifying | | | Car-Driver-Time | | | 1. 71-Brian Leppo 13.174 | | | 2. 39-Doug Esh 13.236 | | | 3. 51-Fred Rahmer 13.245 | | | 4. 59-Jim Siegel 13.263 | | | 5. 2-Dale Blaney 13.288 | | | 6. 4-Danny Smith 13.291 | | | 7. 30c-Lance Dewease 13.297 | | | 8. 87-Alan Krimes 13.327 | | | 9. 22-Greg Hodnett 13.405 | | | 10. 1-Stevie Smith 13.431 | | | 11. 15-Adam Wilt 13.455 | | | 12. 47J-Jeff Busby 13.476 | | | 13. 25-Daryn Pittman 13.479 | | | 14. w20-Greg Wilson 13.485 | | | 15. 83-Tim Shaffer 13.503 | | | 16. 98-Niki Young 13.512 | | | 17. 89-Cody Darrah 13.534 | | | 18. 17e-Cris Eash 13.534 | | | 19. 7m-Mark Smith 13.571 | | | 20. 11c-Cory Haas 13.580 | | | 21. 6r-Ryan Bunton, 13.611 | | | 22. 21-Brian Montieth 13.614 | | | 23. 55-Chad Layton 13.659 | | | 24. 22z-Justin Henderson 13.668 | | | 25. 25o-Aaron Ott 13.675 | | | 26. 16-Gerard McIntyre, Jr. 13.679 | | | 27. 88-Danny Dietrich 13.729 | | | 28. 6w-Josh Wells 13.753 | | | 29. 89g- David Gravel 13.755 | | | 30. 19m-Brent Marks 13.845 | | | 31. 4r-John Rudisill 13.862 | | | 32. 56r-Ryan Myers 13.870 | | | 33. 0-Brandon Wimmer 13.884 | | | 34. 26-Pat Cooper 13.942 | | | 35. 65-Johnny Mackison, Jr. 13.966 | | | 36. 6k-Chris Knopp 13.979 | | | 37. 92-Daron Clayton 14.117 | | | 38. 39t-Tim Glatfelter No Time | | | Heat Finishes (Started) | | | Heat 1 –10 Laps | | | 1. 25 Daryn Pittman (3) | | 2. 2 Dale Blaney (5) | | 3. 89 Cody Darrah (2) | | 4. 22 Greg Hodnett (4) | | 5. 71 Brian Leppo (6) | | 6. 25o Aaron Ott (7) | | 7. 92 Daron Clayton (10) | | 8. 6r Ryan Bunton (1) | | 9. 89g David Gravel (8) | | 10. 0 Brandon Wimmer DNS | | | Heat 2 – 10 Laps | | | 1. 21 Brian Montieth (1) | | 2. 17e Cris Eash (2) | | 3. 1 Stevie Smith (4) | | 4. w20 Greg Wilson (3) | | 5. 39 Doug Eash (6) | | 6. 19m Brent Marks (8) | | 7. 16 Gerald McIntyre Jr. (7) | | 8. 26 Pat Cooper (9) | | 9. 39t Tim Glatfelter (10) | | 10. 4 Danny Smith DNS | | | Heat 3 – 10 Laps | | | 1. 55 Chad Layton (1) | | 2. 83 Tim Shaffer (3) | | 3. 7m Mark Smith (2) | | 4. 51 Freddie Rahmer (6) | | 5. 30c Lance Dewease (5) | | 6. 88 Danny Dietrich (7) | | 7. 15 Adam Wilt (3) | | 8. 4r John Rudisill (8) | | 9. 65 Johnny Mackinson Jr. (9) | | | Heat 4 – 10 Laps | | | 1. 98 Niki Young (3) | | 2. 22Z Justin Henderson (1) | | 3. 11c Cory Haas (2) | | 4. 6w Josh Wells (7) | | 5. 87 Alan Krimes (5) | | 6. 59 Jim Siegel (6) | | 7. 6k Chris Knopp (9) | | 8. 47j Jeff Busby (4) | | 9. 56r Ryan Myers | | | | | | Dash – 8 Laps | | | 1. 51 Fred Rahmer | | 2. 30c Lance Dewease | | 3. 2 Dale Blaney | | 4. 39 Doug Esh | | 5. 1 Stevie Smith | | 6. 22 Greg Hodnett | | | B Main –12 Laps | | | 1. 59 Jim Siegel (1) | | 2. 25o Aaron Ott (6) | | 3. 4 Danny Smith (2) | | 4. 15 Adam Wilt (3) | | 5. 16 Gerald McIntyre Jr. (7) | | 6. 19m Brent Marks (10) | | 7. 47j Jeff Busby (4) | | 8. 88 Danny Dietrich (8) | | 9. 6k Chris Knopp (15) | | 10. 56r Ryan Myers (12) | | 11. 6r Ryan Bunton (5) | | 12. 65 Johnny Mackison Jr. (14) | | 13. 26 Pat Cooper (13) | | 14. 92 Daron Clayton (16) | | 15. 39t Tim Glatfelter (17) | | 16. 89g David Gravel (10) | | 17. 4R John Rudisill (11) | | | | A Main – 30 Laps | | | 1. 51 Fred Rahmer (2) | | 2. 39 Doug Esh (4) | | 3. 71 Brian Leppo (1) | | 4. 87 Alan Krimes (5) | | 5. 2 Dale Blaney (3) | | 6. 1 Stevie Smith (8) | | 7. 30c Lance Dewease (6) | | 8. 25 Daryn Pittman (9) | | 9. 22 Greg Hodnett (7) | | 10. 98 Niki Young (15) | | 11. 59 Jim Siegel (13) | | 12. 89 Cody Darrah (16) | | 13. 17e Cris Eash (17) | | 14. 4 Danny Smith (11) | | 15. 83 Tim Shaffer (14) | | 16. 55 Chad Layton (21) | | 17. 21 Brian Montieth (20) | | 18. 11c Cory Haas (19) | | 19. 15 Adam Wilt (12) | | 20. 25o Aaron Ott (23) | | 21. 6w Josh Wells (24) | | 22. 22z Justin Henderson (22) | | 23. w20 Greg Wilson (10) | | 24. 7m Mark Smith (18) |
