Blaneys Night at Lawrenceburg Scores $60,000
CAMARGO, IL (09-13-08 ) by Robert Cortum - O'Reilly All Star Public RelationsBlaney

For the 9th time in the season and 68th time in his career, Dale Blaney claims the top prize in O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions action.  Blaney powered the George Fisher owned #2b to victory lane after a last lap mishap with the leaders at the $10,000 to win Hoosier Fall Classic at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

Blaney had been running well all night and made his way up to a comfortable 3rd and was following a tight battle between Tim Shaffer and Blake Feese.  Feese was attempting a last lap pass on Shaffer and collected himself and Shaffer brining out the evening’s final red flag.  The final halt to action meant a green-white-checkered finish for Blaney and Randy Hannagan.  On the restart, Blaney got the jump and sailed to victory despite the hard charging efforts of Hannagan.

Blaney now holds onto 2nd place all to himself in the career victory list with the O’Reilly All Stars.  Blaney’s efforts gained him an additional $50,000 for capturing the season championship making for a total of a $60,000 payday for Blaney and Fisher.  The 2008 Championship comes 12 years after his back to back championships in 1995 and 1996 making for his 3rd all-time crown.

The superfast track lent itself to some of the fast and most exciting racing the superstars of “America’s Series” has had to off in 2008.  Four different drivers took the top spot in the 35 lap event.  Blaney was the only one that did not succumb to some sort of misfortune while racing.  Lance Dewease took the early command, but failed wing posts halted his efforts on lap 8.  Lap 8 saw Brock Mayes take control of the point only to relinquish that lead after 15 laps with a flat right rear.  Tim Shaffer then took control until the ill-faded last lap battle.

Thirteen drivers showed the power of their fierce 410 motors as they posted sub 12 second qualifying laps.  Spud Gustin would earn the new track record after posting a fast lap of 11.628.

Heat race action would lay the groundwork for what was to be an exciting night of racing.  Heat races were won by Lee Jacobs (Heat 1), Todd Kane (Heat2), Brandon Wimmer (Heat 3), and Chad Blonde (Heat 4).

The night’s C-Main would take a scary turn for Cole Conley.  Conley was charging from his scratch position on the feature working on a pass for the lead when he lost control of his sprinter and found the turn 1 wall.  Dustin Morgan and Chase Briscoe would take control of the waning laps and make their respective transfer positions to the B-Main.

Brian Ellenberger would take home the B-Main win on the night.  The high-tense action continued in the B-Main which saw a couple of red flag situations.  Joey Moughan would bring out the first one when he jumped the cushion.  Once back under green, another red was shown for a collection of cars that included Paul May, Lee Stark, Aaron Higgins, Ron Blair, and Jeff Bland Jr.  Spud Gustin, Tim Hunter, and Danny Smith would each take transfers to the A-Main

The Dash event gave the 6 fastest All Star members one last look at the track before feature time.  Rob Chaney would take command of the 6 lap affair over Tim Shaffer and Dale Blaney.  Lance Dewease, Blake Feese, and Brock Mayes were the additional participants.

The 2008 Hoosier Fall Classic presented by Miamitown Auto Parts completes the 2008 O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions season.  The series plans to release information about the kick-off to the 2009 season, once again in the Sunshine State of Florida.
