All Star Circuit of Champions to put more money in hands of more racers

CAMARGO, IL. (12-19-10) By Brian Liskai- The O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions will embark on a new concept in 2011 that will put more money into the hands of more race teams and give fans the opportunity to see the best available drivers at each event.

“America’s Series” since 1970, the All Stars will have three distinct, yet connected, point funds in 2011. Teams can compete in a total of approximately 50 races in 2011. However, those who do not have the resources to compete in all those events can pick a region to vie for a good paying point fund.

There will be the Eastern Region, which will feature 20 race dates from Florida to Central Pennsylvania and east including New York and Canada. The region will pay a champion $20,000 to win the points and a will pay back to the 10th place driver.

When April comes around, another All Star region will begin. This region will include 20 race dates between Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, Indiana and Western Pennsylvania. The region will include the 29th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek. Drivers will battle for a $20,000-to-win point fund that will also pay back 10 positions for the region.

In late summer, the Western Region competition will begin with a 10 race schedule, which will include the O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions’ annual Thunder Through the Plains. This will feature a $10,000-to-win point fund that will pay back 10 positions.

“Our goal is to put the best available drivers in front of the fans at every All Star event. After talking to track promoters and race teams, we came up with the regional concept to help more teams make more money and encourage some to travel a little more and experience different tracks and competition,” said Guy Webb, of the All Stars. “Those teams who have the resources will still be able to compete in 40 to 60 All Star shows paying good money.”

“For example, some Ohio teams can’t travel to Florida or Central Pennsylvania, so they can compete in the Ohio region for good purses and a good point fund. The Eastern Region concept will encourage some of the Pennsylvania teams to travel a little more but closer to home for more money and a good point fund. And, we’re putting together a nice schedule for the Thunder Through the Plains and with the separate point fund and the good-paying purses, it might encourage more of the western teams to participate,” added Webb.

“I believe this will strengthen and grow 410 sprint car racing. It’s a win-win-win situation – the race teams can race for bigger purses and more point fund money with less travel; the tracks benefit from having a more marketable program with more teams; and the fans win with the best drivers in the region showing up,” concluded Webb.

The All Stars will kick off their 2011 season at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga. on Feb. 3 with a big $10,000 to win event. Then the O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions will return to Ocala Speedway in Ocala, Florida on Feb. 4 & 5. The All Stars will wrap up their 28th All Star Winternationals in the Sunshine State on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 9 and 10 at Volusia Speedway in Barberville, Fla., as part of the 40th Annual DIRTcar Nationals.

All Star Circuit of Champions Announce 2011 Winternationals
Camargo, IL - (10-26-10) Although the curtain has barely closed on the 2010 season, plans are already underway for 2011 tour for the drivers of the O'Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions. The 2011 season for the traveling series will kick off in the month of February with a trip to the warm southeastern part of the United States for another All Star Circuit of Champions Winter Nationals.

For the first time in the history of the series, the drivers will take to the three-eighth mile Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga. Tim Shaffer, of Aliquippa, Pa., will kick of his title defense at the red clay oval, which normally features full-fender racing from February to November. The first event of the 2011 southern swing is scheduled for Thursday night February 3rd. The feature on this night pays $10,000 to the winner. For more information visit the website at www.screvenmotorspeedway.com.

Then the All Star Circuit of Champions will return to Ocala Speedway in Ocala, Fl, on Feb. 4 and 5. It will mark the third straight year the All Stars will race at the three-eighths mile oval, which kicks off the 28th All Star Winternationals in the Sunshine State.

Who could forget last year’s exciting battle at Ocala! On the last lap, Cale Conley and Brad Sweet were battling for the win with Blaney, Shaffer and Danny “The Dude” Lasoski in tow. But, going into turn three on the final lap, Sweet made his move going high to try and pass Conley. However, the pair made contact, sending both tumbling and bringing out the red flag. During the green-white-checkered finish, Lasoski was able to hold off Shaffer and Blaney for the win with Pennsylvania Posse member Fred Rahmer fourth and California driver Tim Kaeding rounding out the top five.

Two years ago, Shaffer and Terry McCarl picked up the All Star wins at Ocala.

The unique D-shaped 3/8th mile track produces some exciting racing with its sweeping turns 1 and 2 leading to an almost continuous turn down the backstretch to a tight turns 3 and 4 and a very long, fast straightaway. This will mark the track’s 59th year of racing, making it the oldest track in the State of Florida. Friday night’s feature will pay $3,000 to win and Saturday night is a $5,000 to win race.

For more information go to www.ocalaspeedway.com or call 352-622-9400.

After a brief pause the drivers of the All Star Circuit of Champions return to action for their yearly stop at the Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fl., as part of the 40th Annual DIRTcar Nationals. On Wednesday night action heats up with a $4,000 to win event and then one night later on February 10 the Sprint Car feature will pay $5,000.

More information about these events is available at www.volusiaspeedwaypark.net.

The question on everyone’s mind will be can Tim Shaffer, who has scored the last two straight All Star series titles, continue his phenomenal run from 2010 which saw him win 16 All star features and sprint car racing’s biggest event, the Knoxville Nationals. Or, will two-time series champion Greg Wilson make a challenge? Can Connecticut hot shoe David Gravel and 2010 All Star Rookie of the Year Cap Henry lead a “young gun” challenge for the title? Will Dale Blaney make a run at the All Star $50,000 title?

Stevie Smith is in eighth in the standings with 2001 Hoosier Fall Classic winner Dean Jacobs in 9th and ready to debut a new car. PA Posse member Lance Dewease rounds out the top 10.

Expect to see 2010 Attica Raceway Park champion Byron Reed make the tow to the Hoosier state as well as three-time All Star champion and 2003, 2008 and 2009 Hoosier Fall Classic winner Dale Blaney.
